Popping into Lax for fuel perhaps, did a massive divert around storms.

Not sure? NZ29 flew through the same storms? QF8 isn't losing any altitude and it's close to LAX right now. Can't imagine it will make it to SYD without fueling after that big of a dog leg can it?

Should be fine, can always pop in closer to home for a top up, which it might need to do with weather coming in.

QFA8 looks to have overflown San Diego just north of the Mexican border and is now 50 miles over the Pacific Ocean cruising at FL340. A huge line of storms in Texas where everything is BIG! It will be interesting to see if the flight requires any additional fuel on its extended journey.

QFA 8 arrived in Sydney non stop not needing to refuel enroute with a flight time of 16 hours 48 minutes, according to FlightAware. Only the second longest flight time over the last 2 weeks. The A380 is an amazing aircraft.
