Default Skycrane in Action

Many of you may have heard about the fires in East Killara on the North Shore, pretty close to where I live and less than 1km from a mate's place!! For those who haven't, the fires started around 2pm today, and I last heard that 100 firefighters are involved with two helicopters (including one of the Air Cranes). The fire is in a gully with a river at the bottom, which made for some spectacular sights. It was particularly impressive looking DOWN at the helicopters!!

Here are some of the pics of the Air Crane, other pics are at my flickr site (see sig)

Excellent shots! We've got the choppers in action overhead this afternoon doing runs between Asquith and Berowra.

We've had one working the Londonderry fire this afternoon. They were using the Penrith lakes area to refill. Saw plenty of people taking photo's but unfortunately i didn't have my camera with me.

I went exploring and found a few operating out of Rofe Park in hornsby, including the skycrane 'Clancy':

Good ole Rofe Park! I know it well, December 7th 2002 was the last time I shot choppers there. If the fires are sufficient in size they sometimes base some machines there overnight under floodlights, but sometimes they don't so don't blame me if you turn up for a night shot and end up sorely disappointed

Nice shots Peter, thanks for sharing.

Here are some of mine from December 2002

I was told "All Saints" fans will be seeing the BK117 VH-FHB feature a lot in this years season as a rescue chopper.
