However, I can't help wondering how many years before, if we have another event like this, Qantas won't be a part of it...

I think the EK plane turned off the transponder before getting in formation. It disappeared from both fr24 and flightaware off the coast of Manly, and then came back after the flyby.

If you listen carefully during the last 20 seconds of my video at http://youtu.be/CYoYS-R1u6U you'll hear ATC instruct EK to re-start squawking upon breaking formation.
