We shall see. My bet is for every 717 that arrives for Canberra runs a 734 will be gone. Whilst new 738's may also come at the same time these will be, as you put it redeployed.

and my bet is for what was in the internal memo (what has previously been announced to the public) to happen.

I think we are 'arguing' semitics at the end of the day.

If a 738 replaces a 734 and then a 717 replaces a 738 service to Canberra the end result is the same. That is a 738 gets redployed, a 734 gets retired an a 717 goes on routes to Canberra.

It just means that we will finally see some 717's back in Sydney & Canberra lol.

Which is great.

Isn't the problem that QF doesn't have fleet flexibity.

VA has E-jets that can be filled on some routes where a 737 would be only a half or two-thirds full.

Other than introducing a new type (to fit between a DHC8 and 737) the only option was the 717.

Old is new again.

Not sure about flexibility, but they need something inbetween for sure. In many ways a 738 being a tad bigger than a 734 is too much capacity and the Q400's, especially for their hand luggage restrictions are not too flash. The 717 sits right in the middle.

With 10 B73H and 5 B717s still to be delivered that's more than enough to replace the hand full if B734 s that remain.

Cheers

The obvious exception to that statement is the business class seating, with a 717 having more as does a 734, which is why they make better replacements than the 738 on Canberra flights. Its the ability to go to 20 J seats with the 734 that has kept them here as long as they have, versus retirement AKA Jetconnect.

These (the 10 73H and 5 717's) will also see some, if not all the unfurnished 767's disappear too.

Hi All,

Is TJJ the next 734 to go?
I noted on Qantas Source tonight that TJJ ferried Brisbane - Sydney yesterday (20/5) as QF6111.
