Default Flight crew rest breaks

I was recently on a MEL-PER VA flight using a 737 and noticed half way through the flight, a cabin crew member was standing right behind the curtain at the front of business class and appeared to be glancing directly towards the rear of the aircraft. After a moment I noticed the cockpit door was open. I presume this is normal when one of the flight crew needs to visit the bathroom. Makes sense these days to ensure the area is secure this is the world we live in, but I’m curious as to what the Jetstar crew would do when there are no bulkheads or curtains? Such a shame that not so long ago when I was growing up, the cabin crew would ask the young folks if they would like to visit the flight deck, not guarding it. Such is life.

SOP at Virgin when the flight deck door is open - one cabin crew member blocks the aisle watching the pax.

Not sure about other airlines' procedures.

On some US airlines they have a yellow tape to block off the area while the front lavatory is being used by one of the pilots. Also, most airlines here don't allow passengers to line up for the lavatories either - you need to wait in your seat (some airlines relax this a little and allow lines by the lavatory at the rear of the aircraft).

Alex, if you're employed by the Virgin Group, I would be verrrry careful about discussing security information on a public forum.

Sure it may be obvious to some passengers, but I think many would be oblivious to what's going on.
