Student Plane crashes at Jandakot Airport (No fatalities)

A STUDENT pilot has walked away from his badly damaged plane after making a crash landing at Jandakot Airport.

The crash happened as the 21-year-old pilot attempted to land the single engine aircraft at about 9.40am.

The plane suffered extensive damage but the pilot, who was alone in the aircraft, was unharmed.

The aircraft was removed from the runway with the help of Fire and Emergency Services.

Australian Transport Safety Bureau officers will investigate the crash.

It was a Grob (Unknown if pic is the particular aircraft in question)

The student was training with the China Southern Training Company and flying a Grob fixed-wing single propeller training aircraft. He was on a solo flight and was returning to the airport when the crash happened.

It is unknown whether the incident was caused by pilot error or a landing gear malfunction.

Landing gear malfunction in a fixed gear aircraft?

I guess if he landed hard enough and broke the gear off that could be classed as a malfunction!
