What is it with the Qantas 767s. Do they fly empty on most flights or do they just have tight schedule to meet. Not all 767s take of like space shuttles however the qantas 767s taking of out of 34R go straight up. Spotting for a few years now and have seen the odd 767 or MD-11 on a rapid ascent but the Qantas 767s do it quite regularly out of Sydney. Do they do this out of most airports?

The 763ERs are designed to fly around 10 hours with a full load - the hops to Brisbane and Melbourne are not even close to these capabilities!

They have always done this from what I have seen.

Agree Ive always noticed they have very good climb performance, but once again as someone else said flying MEL-SYD-BNE is not what they are designed for.

Hi Tony,
I have done a single engine takeoff from 16R in the QF 767 simulator and you need to bring up the throttle very gently or you just end up in the grass. Once in the air the climb out performance, even on one engine, is fantastic. If you look at the power to weight ratios based on MTOW from the Boeing and Airbus web sites, there is quite a difference: B767-200ER -> 0.314 B767-300ER -> 0.301 MD-11ER -> 0.295 B747-400 -> 0.272 A330-200 -> 0.268 A330-300 -> 0.268 A340-300 -> 0.224 A340-400 -> 0.224

Nothing quite like the raw power of a 767 when a landing has to be aborted all of about a few metres off the ground....that was an experience i dont think ill forget!

I was thinking last night about the take-offs I have experienced in my life and none have felt as awesome as the 767 ones. I don't recall being pushed back in my seat harder on any other type, the 767 takes the cake.
