Fire breaks out in Perth airport
January 15, 2009 - 10:39AM

Firefighting crews have been called to Perth International Airport, where a fire has broken out in the Customs area, a Fire and Emergency Services Authority (FESA) spokesman says.

The first fire truck was called out at 7.30am (WDT) on Thursday, FESA says, but there is little other information available.

The Perth Now website reports that airline crews and passengers have been evacuated.

Customs and Immigration staff asked to return to the terminal, so looks like everything is ok now. 0920.

There was No fire [as was it reported in the Media :ugh::ugh::ugh:]

Faulty electrical that caused smoke, Fire crews vented smoke and custom's / immigration let back in the building and processed Thai / Singapore as a priority..

More proof that smoking is bad.

A CIGARETTE dropped down a stormwater drain started a fire which forced the evacuation of Perth International Airport today.

Flights were delayed and 2000 people, including 500 passengers, were evacuated from the terminal as firefighters scoured the building to determine why thick smoke filled the building at 7.15am.

Passengers began filtering back into the terminal shortly before midday, almost five hours after the drama began.

Three flights were stranded on the tarmac for several hours while firefighters swarmed through the terminal this morning.

would've been good if it burnt down, that way WAC would be forced to move its rear end and start fixing the mess that is our airport.

The Fire Dept is reporting cigarette butt in a stormwater drain, and seem fairly certain about it.
