Air Asia X MEL-KUL-MEL
Hi all
I am flying D7 MEL-KUL and return this coming weekend (depart Friday night - actually Sat morning @ 0125 - returning to Melbourne Monday morning). Is there any pattern to which aircraft D7 operate on this sector? I presume it is an A330, not A340, but is it the newer version with IFE etc or the older aircraft that started Air Asia X's operations? Any help appreciated.

First I will say..you poor thing.
I flew Airasia X recently MEL-KUL-MEL and both aircraft were the brand new A330. If you can, upgrade to XL as it is moderatly more comfortable than the Y class and go in row 1. Much more room. The seats do not recline, however go forward so you will be pushed into the seat infront. I am informed this will be replaced next year. Dont purchase the meal online, however purchase it on the plane as there is much more variety. I found the IFE (PTV) slow, and even froze on person next to me. I didn't find the crew that good at all. Would I fly them again... only on the day flight. The night flight was pretty bad.

I also flew Air Asia X and yes not very comfortable in those seats which are narrower than most as extra seat across in fuselage as 10 across.However the price of the tickets compared to the non LCC carriers sure made up for this.
I prebooked the meals as they warned that they may run out if you book onboard-i suppose it depends on the loadings ? May i also say that both landings in KL and OOL were the smoothest i have ever been on in 45 years of flying . Yes i went over on XXA and back on XXB the newer 333's.

I flew with them a couple of weeks back on XXB there and XXC back. Flew pretty much a straight line from MEL-KUL and the return trip was much the same. Might of tracked a little further south when flying over Australia. Seats don't recline as mentioned which is nasty doing the red eye flight. These will be replaced next year at some stage. I had no issues with the flight crew either.
Even with the bad seats I would definatly fly them again. To fly MEL-KUL rtn for $198 inc taxes is a bargin. Might try for a daytime flight next time though. Also if you want to catch the train into KL Sentral instead of the bus you will need to get a bus from LCCT to Salak Tinggi KLIA Transit Station and from there the train will take you straight to KL Sentral. Train is a bit more reliable as you don't have the traffic to deal with.

I flew Air Asia X MEL-KUL and KUL - MEL back in June. As everyone else has said, it's the red-eye flight that's the real killer, it all went downhill at about 11pm when all the shops in the terminal at MEL closed, I just wanted to go home and go to bed.
I didn't have too many issues with the seats, 2 of us were travelling so we booked the first set of 2 seats at the rear, I'm 180+cm and was able to sit with my legs sprawled out towards the aisle behind the 3rd seat in front of us. It's the cabin I found was the pain. The newer birds they have with the PTV are much more pleasant, we didn't fork out for the 35 odd ringgit to get access to the selection of movies and TV shows but you still get access to the inflight map and chat system. We were unlucky enough to score the not-so fab cabin on the way back to MEL, no inflight map, no radio, no personal aircon nozzles, I know this used to be the norm but I'm used to being spoiled with PTV's and entertainment these days  As for getting out of KLIA, I agree that the train is the way to go, it's just trying to find a bus to the transit station or the main terminal to get one is a tough task when you have to dodge the taxi and KL Sentral bus hawkers as you walk out of the LCC Terminal.
