Tropical Cyclone Ului
Severe Tropical Cyclone Ului is just in the process of crossing the North Queensland coast. Certainly packing a punch as it does, currently a Severe Category 3.
Couple of METAR's from surrounding aerodromes: Hamilton Island, shortly to see the eye of the cyclone SPECI YBHM 201222Z AUTO 15055G74KT //// // ////// 24/22 Q0996 RMK RF02.4/020.2 Proserpine, just starting to get some of the gale force winds SPECI YBPN 201210Z AUTO 18019G29KT 9999NDV // SCT030 BKN036 OVC048 25/21 Q1003 RMK RF00.2/001.6 Mackay, while 100km away, is situated in one of the worst parts of the cyclone SPECI YBMK 201215Z AUTO 13045G57KT 0900NDV // SCT010 BKN016 OVC022 24/23 Q1004 RMK RF02.6/020.2 Image attached that was taken at 1220 UTC (2220 local). More of an update. The eye of the cyclone is now getting very close to Hamilton Island, so the worst of the winds are starting to hit it.
