Default In-flight immigration

an interesting concept, (I know USA does pre-departure immigration especially in Canada), but never heard of it being done in-flight

Quote:
The national carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is the first airline to introduce immigration officers on board to conduct passport checks and issue visas in-flight.

"We launched the new service on our Tokyo-Denpasar-Jakarta route last month," said Garuda president and chief executive ..."

During the flight, passengers can apply for visas on arrival and immigration clearance.

Two immigration officers will swipe passports and give travellers a special card, which must be handed over to ground officers on arrival.

Tourists can then bypass the queue at immigration counters.
seems a good idea, but what happens if the passenger is rejected in-flight, may cause physical problems

I'm sure they can install a special in-flight deportation hatch for that.
