Thought I would put up some shots of the current activity at Boeing at the moment. 30C day in Seattle bought out alot of spotters today.
Another milestone in the 787 program today, with Air India's first 787 was delivered. Will become a frequent visitor to Melbourne late this year. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After a brake check and a RTO, departed for New Dehli. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Royal Air Maroc 787 ![]() Engine Weights. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Great photos Lukas - that holding yard, where exactly is it? I am assuming it isn't on the side of the airport near the delivery centre/Future of Flight.

Sarah - holding yard is just next to the delivery centre. If you are up on the viewing platform, it is straight in front of you.. looking back towards Seattle.. Trying to get the map for you, but if you pop "Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour, Paine Field Boulevard, Mukilteo, WA, United States" into Google maps, you will see the map with 4 planes parked just below the F.O.F...

Why are the 17,000 lb weights on the parked a/c awaiting engines and is that the approx weight of a 787-8 engine?

If you happen to have pay TV, there's a Megafactories: Boeing program doing the rounds on National Geographic Channel (should be in the download on demand section on Foxtel too). It focuses on the 747-8 but the weights are explained. My sieve memory can't recollect the precise reason for the weights but I seem to recall it was to simulate the engine weight and to keep the wing flexed down while it's sans fuel and engines.
