"The wing tips of two Qantas aircraft, an A380 and B747, came into contact at approximately 9pm (local) while being towed out of the hangar in Los Angeles. No passengers were on board. Both aircraft have been assessed by engineers and as a result the 27 February QF94 (LAX-MEL) and QF16 (LAX-BNE) services have been cancelled." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good ol' 6pm news first described the story as a "Qantas Emergency". ![]() Last edited by Adam.S; 28th February 2014 at 06:06 PM. |

How can this keep happening. When ever I fly thru the states there is always a wing walker with their wand up in the air as the plane is towed.

It has happened a few times to VA but those ones I think hit buildings rather than other aircraft. But yes, you have to ask how it keeps happening.

Guess they'd already sacked the wing walker on the Tarmac

Maybe the 744 is one of the ones on the early scrape heap after Joyce's announcement and the A388 just wanted to give it a farewell handshake?
;-) Cheers M

Unfortunately not, OQI and OEI are reported to be the aircraft involved, word has it that the tug drivers upgrade to pilot has been put on hold and Alan is looking at alternative means to bring Pilot wages down !

Tow them over to VCV, its about 90 min down the road and they will be with most of the other QF fleet

I guess that means that my trip to Hong Kong on Monday on QF127 is a candidate for a change of Aircraft Type. The scheduled A380 will probably be needed for LAX runs and more than a few will get bumped to Cathay.

VH-OQJ is operating the delayed QF94D, while VH-OJU is operating QF16D. Both flights are due into their respective ports later this evening.
