No real surprise,

Some of the intended a/c are: sn 6,7,8,9,11...

Older a/c with (I expect) high hours and high cycles.

Of the a/c which QQ expect to pickup, only three have sns >100

E190 Airframe Acquisition and Fleet Update

Alliance took delivery of its first Embraer E190 in September 2020 and now has 33 E190s in Australia, all of which are owned. This significant fleet expansion has taken considerable investment to build the internal infrastructure and operating capability.

The business is now in a strong position to grow the E190 operational fleet and its profitability.

As announced in February 2023, Alliance entered into a contract to acquire 30 additional E190 jet aircraft from AerCap Ireland Limited (“AerCap Deal”). These aircraft are scheduled to commence delivery from September 2023 with final delivery in January 2026.

The rationale for this acquisition was twofold: to provide capacity for growth and to provide aircraft for disassembly to provide spare componentry and spare engines. This will support both the company’s operational fleet and provide inventory for the company’s Aviation Services business which continues to see increasing demand.

As is the case with the company’s Fokker spare parts holdings, Alliance will provide E190 spares to other operators in Australasia and around the world.
Separately, Alliance identified a capacity shortfall in the first quarter of 2024 due to an increase in demand, contractual commitments, the timing of the AerCap Deal deliveries and related fleet logistics.

To address this, Alliance has entered into a contract to acquire an additional four E190 airframes from Azorra Aircraft Holdings LLC (“Azorra Deal”). These airframes have a long maintenance life remaining and are “sister ships” to the aircraft being acquired under the AerCap Deal. These airframes will be delivered to Alliance in Costa Rica (without engines fitted) starting in August 2023.

Alliance will utilise spare engines from the disassembled aircraft mentioned above to bring the four additional aircraft into operation between November 2023 and March 2024.

Mr McMillan commented, “This deal is complementary to the AerCap Deal and ensures we have the capacity at the time we require it to deliver on the demand we are seeing in the market”.

Jet Blue N258JB, C/n 19000047, ferried JFK/QRO (Queretaro Mexico) on 31 May and has not moved.

Maybe checks and service, or hopefully cabin upgrades as well. QRO is a significant MRO center in Mexico.

Greg Hyde

This is one of the 30 for alliance.

Actually 30+4 now. (see Above)

QRO is Jetblues E190 maintenance base.

In the past a/c will stay at QRO for about a month before returning to service.

I haven't noticed this N258JB being withdrawn (only parked).

It may be an operational spare in case another a/c goes u/s.

Kent Broadhead
3rd August 2023, 05:23 PM
Interestingly the info I could find didn't highlight JetBlue maintenance at QRO, but that makes sense.

I hope they do somthing with those worn out B6 interiors.

Greg Hyde
4th August 2023, 11:18 AM
From what I've read, QQ will be using SJO for maintenance/paint before heading our way.

It would also make sense to perform engine changes and parting-out at SJO. Filling the holds and cabins with spares before heading for their new home.

8th August 2023, 01:12 PM
Thanks Dylan,

By my count, QQ (E190 x 33) now has

Logojet x 1
White x 3 (AirNorth)
QQ x 10
QLink x 19

with UYW/UYY/UYZ having repaints

Hi Greg, VH-XVQ is still all white and has NOT flown since its arrival in Brisbane on 11/9/2021 as N954UW.

Rowan McKeever
8th August 2023, 04:01 PM
I believe XVQ is a parts donor and will never fly for QQ.

The 3x Airnorth are two all-white (UYC & UYR) and one in QQ livery (UYJ).

None of that changes your totals (it's still UYB + 3x white + 10x QQ + remainder QF), just what's operating where/for whom.

XVQ (depending on the frame life) may fly again once the parts from the next deal with Jetblue start to arrive. XVQ is s/n 139 which is about 3 yrs younger than the Jetblue a/c.

Rowan McKeever

With UYW now in QF livery, my records show that there are 19 E190s in QF livery. They are: UYE, UYW, UYY, UYZ, UZD, UZF, UZH, UZI, UZK, UZQ, XVB, XVL, XVM, XVO, XVP, XVS, XVT, XVU, XVX.

Does this reconcile with other's records?

Looks right,

There could be some QLink services being flown by some QQ liveried a/c.

Nice to get everything in order before the next batch starts arriving next month.

Rowan McKeever

Yes, I agree, so Alliance are only using 10.

There are 10 in QQ livery plus UYB in the RAAF Centenary livery, i.e. 11 total. However, UYJ is one of the QQ-liveried aircraft and is operating exclusively for TL. So, realistically, there are 10 available to operate for QQ on its charter work. Then, as Greg said, the QQ-liveried aircraft do also fly for Qantas (my parents were on a QF service operated by UYO last week, for example).

Greg Hyde
9th August 2023, 11:10 AM
This is what the QQ Liveried a/c were doing about 30mins ago:

UYB Gate BNE after QF1939
UFF QQ4722
UYI QF1949
UYJ ANO113
UYK QF1869
UYN Gate DRW after QQ4804
UYO Gate BNE after QF1914
UYU Gate DRW after QQ927
XFC QQ3105
XFL QQ855
XFM QQ852

Looks like the Fokkers are still carrying most of the QQ load

UFF QQ4722

Greg, thanks for your input. I think UFF in your list should be UYF.

Interestingly, UYF flew QF1989/1990 on Sunday, QQ4721/4722 yesterday and QF1987 this morning. So, there seems to be regular swapping of E190s between QF and QQ. UYF looks to be based in TSV at present and has been operating out of TSV to MEL and SYD a couple of time per week for QF and CNJ for QQ every Wednesday for the last fortnight.

Thanks James, Dyslexia again.

I think they swap around on demand, they are so tight on frames at the moment. I expect that is why they brought forward the acquisition of the extra frames in the second deal and will continue for a few months until the QF A220s enter service and free-up some E190 capacity.

Dennis McLean
11th August 2023, 08:31 AM
That would make 20 in QF livery, are they getting 20 or 22??

James Smith
11th August 2023, 09:05 AM
Hi Dennis, I recorded the announcement of the first tranche of E190s leased by QANTAS as 14 to be delivered by 30/6/22, followed by another four to be delivered by 1/1/23. The final tranche is for an additional 12 aircraft with all 30 to be delivered by the first quarter of 2025.

These dates were extended with the last three aircraft in QF livery not delivered until February (XVU), March (XVS) and June (UYE) this year. This equaled 19 E190s in QF livery and if UYO is repainted would be the twentieth. But as already mentioned in this thread QF are using other Alliance E190s which are not in QF livery, so the total numbers maybe higher. Also, I haven't recorded the dates they actually started service with QF after delivery to Australia and any pre-service maintenance.

Greg Hyde
11th August 2023, 11:07 AM
QQ is contracted by QF to supply x number of frames.

If any frames goes u/s or maintenance they are obliged (contracted) to cover that a/c. That frame could have QF/QQ livery depending on what spare frame is available.

They have brought the orders forward because they haven't got the spare frame capacity and since the QF/QQ takeover failed I expect that QF will be following the letter of the contract.

Greg Hyde
12th August 2023, 12:57 PM
Could be a furphy, but here we go:

E190 XA-AEF/41 flew into SJO on 06/08 for end of lease maintenance (repaint?).

Why is this of interest, the same Company who did the previous QQ work is doing this aircraft. Also SJO doesn't see much E190 traffic.

Also found on Coopesa MRO twitter an early QQ repaint (2020)

https://twitter.com/i/status/1324376311993978882

May be of interest.

Thanks for the link and information, Greg. Are you suggesting that XA-AEF maybe the first E190 from the AerCap contract? It is due for delivery in September if on schedule.

UYZ, ex N922QQ was the first E190 delivered to Alliance on 29/10/20. Interestingly, UYZ is now painted in the QANTAS livery.

We will have to wait and see if they fly to SJO (but you are probably right)

In SJO they have change engines, perform maintenance, repaint...

They bought spares & extra engines as part of the original Copa deal.

They may also have to use the Ex-JetBlue engines as well.

Alliance has announced its results for the half year end 31 December 2023 (HY24) with a statutory profit before tax (PBT) of $37.7 million, an increase of $28.2 million or 296 per cent (HY23: $9.5 million).

During the period the Group experienced record flight hours, two additions to the operational fleet and record financial results for the first half of a financial year.

Revenue from operations increased by 27.2 per cent to $299.4 million (HY23: $235.3 million) with significant growth in contracted wet lease revenue.

Alliance’s managing director, Scott McMillan, said: “The performance of Alliance in the first half of the financial year continues to highlight the strength of our business, which has grown in both activity and financial results. Contracted wet lease operations continue to increase month to month and have pleasingly more than doubled in the past year.

“Contract charter provides the foundation for fleet expansion activities, with increased activity in the half year. Our market leading on time performance coupled with our ability to react quickly to capacity demands is our competitive advantage. It is why we remain the preeminent FIFO and wet lease operator in Australia.

“Our strategy to acquire additional fleet units in advance of immediate operational requirements has proven to be successful. We know that there is incredible demand in Australia for ~100 seat jet aircraft. It is the perfect size aircraft for FIFO, regional and sub trunk flying. With our fleet build strategy, we are perfectly positioned to capture this demand.

“By remaining incredibly focused on operating safe and on-time jet services, we will continue to retain contracts for which we have a proven track record. Extending three different BHP group contracts in the half year for between five and seven years was an outstanding result.”

Going forward, Alliance looks to increase its wet lease and FIFO demand, see the delivery of seven E190 aircraft in the second half of the financial year and focus on cost control and capability to ensure that the group’s profitability margins are maintained in a high inflation economy.

Qantas brings forward wet-lease start dates for four E190s

Alliance Airlines Embraer E190 (QantasLink livery),

By Andrew Curran 29Feb2024

Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) is bringing forward the entry into service dates of four E190s it had previously agreed to wet-lease from Alliance Airlines (QQ, Brisbane International). The change was confirmed via a February 27 Australian Stock Exchange filing.

Qantas already wet-leases twenty-two E190s from Alliance, which it uses to service thinner routes primarily in central and northern Australia. In October 2023, the two airlines announced a deal to increase the fleet to 26 aircraft. The latest filing says the flag carrier asked to bring forward the entry into service dates of those additional aircraft "by several weeks" and that the four aircraft are expected to be flying for Qantas by June 2024.

Qantas also has a further four options. Late last year, Alliance Chairman Steve Padgett told shareholders he was confident Qantas would exercise those options, which would see Alliance operating thirty E190s for the Australian flag carrier.

ch-aviation fleets data shows Alliance Airlines has twenty-nine ERJ 190-100ARs and three ERJ 190-100LRs, twenty-two F100s, and thirteen F70s in its fleet. Alliance is building its E190 fleet to 63 after recently buying thirty ex-JetBlue Airways (B6, New York JFK) E190s from AerCap. Those aircraft started arriving in November 2023. In addition to the Qantas wet leases, Alliance currently uses six E190s on its network and wet leases three to Airnorth (Australia) (TL, Darwin).

Alliance issued the following ASX release today:

In the Company's half year results presentation, released on 7 February 2024, the Company highlighted its plan to "part out" 11 Embraer E190 aircraft to be acquired in the Aercap transaction.

"Parting out" involves reducing the aircraft to its component parts, engines, undercarriage, and auxiliary power units. Then either using these components for spare parts for fleet use (thereby reducing maintenance capex of the operational fleet) or selling to third parties, as part of Alliance's parts trading (Aviation Services) business.

Due to significant demand for the Company's aircraft, and recent upward movement in used regional jet pricing, Alliance today announces that it will reduce the number of E190 aircraft being "parted out" from eleven to seven.

This will increase the fleet units to be deployed by four aircraft. The additional four operational aircraft will now be used for revenue generating operations for both Company and third-party use (either wet lease or dry lease).

Alliance's Managing Director, Scott McMillan, commented, "We have a long record of opportunistically purchasing aircraft and realising exceptional value by deployment, sale (aircraft or parts) or lease.

"At the time of this notice, Alliance has taken delivery of 10 of 34 of the E190 fleet committed to in February and July 2023, with three already parted out."

A third one is in Singapore being parted-out, all VH-OUx series.

Last month (time flies) they announced that they would part-out only 7 from the 11 originally planned. Well wait and see.

So in order of the 7 oldest, we have C/N 1900006 in XSP, 7 and 9 in ROK, 8, 11 and 14 in SJO and 17 still in MCN. Can we be bold and guess that the 7 oldest will be parted out??

I cannot find a VH-??? for N298JB yet.

N298Jb has been added to reg as yet.

When aircraft are scrapped there are more factors than age come into play for example: flight time. landing cycles, maintenance cycle, engine hours ...

Most these early JB E-190s spent some time in storage when covid was raging.

Alliance Airlines (QQ, Brisbane International) has exclusively appointed Fokker Aircraft Services to market Fokker 70 VH-KBX (msn 11547), a VIP-configured aircraft formerly in service with the Dutch government (Rijksluchtvaartdienst).

The 28.6-year-old jet has been stored at Rockhampton since August 2023, although it has not operated any official flights since November 2022. Originally delivered to the Dutch government in 1996, it was retired from government service in 2017 and replaced with a B737-700(BBJ). Alliance Airlines acquired it for EUR3.7 million euros (USD3.9 million) and deployed it on its own charter network.

The Australian carrier retained the original executive configuration, which includes 12 VIP seats in the front section of the cabin and 12 business-class seats in a standard 2-2 layout in the aft.

"The aircraft has been meticulously maintained throughout its life and boasts a very low utilisation. This represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a large-size corporate jet with unique outfitting," Fokker Aircraft Services said.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Alliance Airlines continues to operate thirteen F70s (of which four are currently inactive) in standard configuration, seating up to 80 passengers each. The carrier also operates twenty-four Fokker 100s but has begun a fleet transition to Embraer aircraft. It currently operates thirty-four E190s. However, during a recent shareholder call, Chairman Steve Padgett confirmed that the Fokker Aircraft regional jets will remain in Alliance Airlines' fleet for another six to nine years.

It was always a bit of an interesting pickup, although perhaps not in the context of the extensive Fokker fleet at the time, but it will be a litle sad to see VH-Köningin Beatrix (KBX) go.

In the whole scheme of things, if it not being used and they have other frames for spares, why keep it.

My understanding is the KBX is owned by Alliance chairman Steve Padgett rather than Alliance itself. Alliance had maintained the aircraft and leased it from time to time presumably when it could secure a charter.

I think they were trying to get some lucrative contracts and some Captains choice tours with the aircraft. Thus the purchase of the F70.

Australia's Alliance Airlines sees E190 delivery delays: Alliance Airlines (QQ, Brisbane International) is experiencing delays in the delivery of thirty E190s purchased from AerCap in 2023, causing the closed charter specialist to revise down its spending commitments this year.
In an April 26 Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) filing, Alliance said it had expected to spend AUD182-204 million Australian dollars (USD119-133 million) this calendar year settling the purchase of 17 of the 30 aircraft.

That is why QF wanted to up the rate of E190 leases from QQ so they remove the B717's faster. Also to cover any problems with A220 delivery delays.

They also summarised the status of their E190 fleet as:

Delivered and in 'part out' - 7
Service entry maintenance - 4
On a future delivery schedule - 21
